Home Bitcoin mining is starting to get really interesting again. Just this month, 3 more solo Bitcoin blocks were hit by home miners. Meaning 3 random people woke up and suddenly had 3.125 BTC sitting in their wallet… which is around $250,000 right now.

And the craziest part is that some of those people were using miners that are LESS powerful than the one I’ve been testing recently.

It’s called the Terminus A2X from GekkoScience, and honestly… this thing is super cool.

It’s a small standalone home miner that runs at around 7 TH/s, uses about 100 watts, has built-in WiFi, and is surprisingly quiet (if you run the fan at 50-70%). Like… quiet enough where I barely notice it running across the room most of the time. That’s one of the biggest things that stood out to me immediately. Most miners sound like a jet engine. This one actually feels realistic to run in a normal room or office setup. It also looks really clean compared to a lot of miners out there right now. And for the size, the efficiency is actually really solid too. Around 14j/TH, which is better than some of the big ASICs I run like the S21 at 17.5j/TH (the lower the number, the more efficient).

Now obviously the big question is… can you actually make money with this thing?

If you’re solo mining Bitcoin, the odds are still low. With this miner specifically, your chances are around 1 in 783,000 per day or about 1 in 26,000 per month to hit a full Bitcoin block. But if you DO hit one… that’s currently worth around $250,000.

That’s why people call these “lottery miners” or “solo miners.”

And before you say “that’ll never happen,” remember… people literally keep hitting blocks with these smaller home setups. 22 solo blocks have been hit in the past year (so far).

You can also mine Bitcoin Cash, where the odds are way better. Around 1 in 189 per month with current difficulty. The reward there is much smaller, around $1,400, but still enough to pay for the miner multiple times over.

There’s also some interesting stuff happening with mining difficulty right now too. Bitcoin difficulty has actually been dropping recently, which slightly improves the odds for smaller miners like this. I cover that in the video down below. Honestly, though, I think half the fun is just running one. It’s a cool conversation starter, it supports the Bitcoin network, it’s a great learning tool, and it’s fun checking it every day, knowing there’s technically a chance you could wake up to a massive block reward. Plus, power usage is tiny. Around 100 watts. For most people, that’s just a few bucks a month.
